Timeline 2022-2023

May

Cardio Drumming Competition

This month we held a cardio drumming competition. Each class practiced a song to perform for the active school committee and they chose three winners. Cardio drumming is so fun!

April

Active Walkway

For April, we created an Active Walkway around the school and each class combined their laps each day to see our total at the end of the month. We got a lot of steps in and had fun in the process. One more lap to a thousand!

March

FAI Five-a-Side Tournament

Two teams of eight girls were selected from 5th and 6th class to represent the school in a five-a-side football tournament in Irishtown. The girls travelled with their coaches- Mr. O’Brien and Mr. McCorry to compete in the event against other primary schools in the Dublin area. The girls had an amazing day out and should be proud of the performances they put in on the day.

‘Run Around Ireland’ Challenge

This month we are taking part in the Run Around Ireland Challenge. We are building a running break into each day by running laps on the track in our yard. When we calculate how many kilometres we have ran, we can then see which famous landmark in Ireland we have ran to! It is a great way to get to know all of the landmarks in Ireland.

February

‘Climb the Heights’ Skipping Challenge

This month we are taking part in the skipping challenge ‘Climb the Heights’. We set a target that the whole school worked together on throughout the day to achieve. We counted how many skips each pupil completed and then we had a look to see how many of Europe’s mountains our school climbed.

January

Tag Rugby

Tag Rugby started in January and everyone is loving it. It is super active and engaging, the children never want it to end!

Yoga

Yoga with Paul runs each week in the hall. It’s a nice time to relax and stretch after a busy day of work!

December

Santa Walk to Grangegorman

To celebrate Christmas, our whole school went on a walk to Grangegorman wearing Christmas jumpers! It was a lovely fresh day and a nice way to get our steps in and have a chat with our friends.

Playground Games

Playground games have started each lunchtime now thanks to our Active Schools Committee. Each day a different class gets to take part in playground games with the Active School Committee in a cornered off section of the yard. Everyone is really enjoying it.

November

Sport Ireland National Indoor Athletics Training Centre

A huge well done to the girls from 5th and 6th class who represented Stanhope Street at Sport Ireland National Indoor Athletics Training Centre. They came second in their relay, we are so proud of them!

After School Active Club

Our After-School Active Club is back up and running now every Tuesday and Thursday for first class pupils. Each week we do different activities such as football, dance, games, skipping etc. After Christmas it will be run for our second class students.

October

Halloween Disco at Yard time

To celebrate Halloween, we held a Halloween disco in the yard at lunch-time. It was really fun with lots of good music and spooky costumes to enjoy.

Fyffe Fit Active School Exercises

Our school is competing for Fyffe’s Fittest School. Each day every class takes 5 minutes to complete exercises and try to get to the top of the leaderboard. Also, at yard time each day we do quick exercises when the bell rings and rotate the exercises each week.

GAA

GAA takes place each week in the yard. We are learning lots of new skills and techniques and improving with each lesson.

September

Tae-Kwondo

Tae-Kwondo is back up and running each Friday for classes. The children are learning about ways to defend themselves and having lots of fun in the process. We definitely have some future black belts in the making!

Active School Committee

Say hello to our new Active School Committee! The children are so excited to get started and full of new ideas to make our school even more active than before.
