Sixth class have been extremely busy lately learning all about the different types of Engineers. For Engineers Week we took on different challenges working as various different types of engineers.
The children worked as structural engineers designing buildings using spaghetti and marshmallows. To stimulate an earthquake we used a bowl full of jelly. Each child tested their structures by shaking the jelly to determine if it could withstand an earthquake.
Another challenge involved working as civil engineers to design a bridge to hold a load using only a single A4 sheet of paper. We then tested the stability of our bridges using 2 cent coins. Some children’s bridges were able to hold over 100 coins!!
